The spring 2017 NPT Newsletter is hot off the press ...

... and available in cool, easy-to-read PDF digital format here.

In this issue:

- Preservation Week 2017 set for May 16-21, 2017, with exhibitions, tours, an author's talk and book-signing, "An Evening in Gaol," the annual Preservation Awards, and more. This year's theme, "Newburyport in the Historic American Buildings Survey," showcases the photos and measured drawings of surveys conducted in the 1930s. See the complete schedule here.

- Go to Jail for preservation! Don't miss the opportunity to tour Newburyport's "Old Gaol" on Friday, May 19, 6-8 p.m. Go straight to registration information here!

- A new "must-have" book on Newburyport architecture debuts during Preservation Week. The HABS and the HABs NOTs: Documenting the Architecture of Newburyport in the Historic American Buildings Survey by R.W. Bacon looks back at the wide-ranging federal program that advanced historic preservation in the 1930s, and features the photos and measured drawings from surveys conducted in Newburyport. The book includes chapters on economic history, origins of the HABS program, an illustrated guide to 300 years of house styles in Newburyport, topical bibliographies, and "The HABs NOTS" Gallery, celebrating the more modest-size historic homes in Newburyport's National Register Historic District. Read more about the book ... or order your copy online ... here.

- The '1690 House': Deja vu all over again? Read an update about another instance of developer disregard for requirements, slack city enforcement, and more of Newburyport's historic authenticity lost.

Happy reading ... and feel free to share your newsletter with interested folks and prospective NPT members.
