Don't miss this engaging presentation Thurs., Oct. 17:
"From Animal House to Our House"
with author/preservationist Ron Tanner

Award-winning author and preservationist Ron Tanner visits the Newburyport Public Library on Thursday, October 17 at 7:00 p.m. to tell the comical-but-true story of how he and his wife bought condemned property --- a wrecked former fraternity house in Baltimore, Md. --- and restored it to its original Victorian splendor. This free-to-the-public event is co-sponsored by the Newburyport Preservation Trust.

Ron & Jill Tanner knew nothing about fixing up houses when they started, but their work reclaiming the 19th-century inner-city brownstone led to a feature in This Old House magazine in 2008, and later to Ron Tanner's book, From Animal House to Our House: A Love Story, published in 2012.

Today the couple run www.houselove.org, a web site for old house enthusiasts and do-it-yourself restorers. In the past year Ron Tanner has toured the U.S. promoting the book with his comic monologue accompanying a slide show of their "hilarious and harrowing" restoration adventures.

Light refreshments will be served by the Newburyport Preservation Trust.
